Wishing You Health, Happiness, and Home for the Holidays I have always found the holidays to be a great time for reflection on the past year, and 2018 has given me so much to be excited about! Thanks to you, it has been an incredibly successful year in so many ways. Let me tell you about just a few of the great things that have happened for our organization and the 3,000-plus Furkids we’ve saved so far this year. We started off 2018 as a partner with Miranda Lambert in her Atlanta concert, generating some great awareness for Furkids. Miranda and her crew loved having the opportunity to play… READ MORE >

We’re Flooded! Can You Help?

Posted on Friday, September 14th

We’re Flooded! Can You Help? This week, Furkids’ TransFUR Coalition transported Hurricane Florence evacuees, taking in as many as our shelter and current foster capacity allows. On top of that we have numerous summer litter kittens - so we’re awash in a wave of cute, adoptable, adorable kittens, cats, puppies and dogs right now! As Hurricane Florence overstays her welcome in the Carolinas, we are working hard to recruit fosters and match families with pets in need of loving forever homes. This means we need your help – with fosters, donations - and especially ADOPTIONS THIS WEEKEND. What can you do? ADOPT NOW - A… READ MORE >

A TransFUR Coalition Success Story - Abbott & Costello’s Journey

A TransFUR Coalition Success Story - Abbott & Costello’s Journey On a hot morning in mid-July, brothers Abbott & Costello were surrendered to a rural animal shelter in Georgia. Since they were surrendered by their owner, this put Abbott & Costello at the top of the euthanasia list in a crowded shelter. No longer wanted, their prospects were bleak and their luck had run out. At about the time Abbott & Costello were surrendered, Furkids was busy organizing another north-bound transport to save the lives of Georgia kitties by sending them to states where they are looking for more adoptable cats. Furkids contacted a rescue group in Savannah to tell… READ MORE >

What life-saving change allowed a long-time Furkid to find a new home in minutes? Now you can be a part of a game-changing new program! Tessa, a beautiful kitty, lived at Furkids for nearly 365 long days, watching adopters leave the shelter with other cats. Sadly, Tessa was always left behind, and our staff members watched this affectionate cat lose her spirit. Until a bold new program matched Tessa with an unlikely adoptive family - almost immediately. Furkids and the Athens Area Humane Society joined forces to launch the Georgia Interstate TransFUR Coalition, an innovative state-to-state animal adoption program. The purpose is to give homeless Georgia pets a better chance at adoption by sending them… READ MORE >

Hurricane Matthew Victims Update

Posted on Thursday, October 27th

- UDPATE -  Two weeks ago, Furkids took in 63 Hurricane Matthew victims who had been affected by severe flooding in the Carolinas. We asked for contributions to help with the care of these helpless animals who had lost everything, and our fans stepped up. Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to provide for all the Hurricane Matthew dogs and cats who came into our shelters. Many of the animals were placed into safe, warm, loving foster homes and are settling in well and recovering. Again, we want to thank all our supporters, volunteers, fosters and staff who… READ MORE >
