Two weeks ago, Furkids took in 63 Hurricane Matthew victims who had been affected by severe flooding in the Carolinas. We asked for contributions to help with the care of these helpless animals who had lost everything, and our fans stepped up. Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to provide for all the Hurricane Matthew dogs and cats who came into our shelters. Many of the animals were placed into safe, warm, loving foster homes and are settling in well and recovering.
Again, we want to thank all our supporters, volunteers, fosters and staff who contributed toward this astonishing rescue. We are so thankful for each and every one of you. If you would like to make a donation toward the animals still in the program, please visit furkids.org/donation.
The Hurricane Matthew animals will be available for adoption soon. Follow us on Facebook for updates!
Furkids recently took in two Chihuahua puppies after a Good Samaritan found them in a dumpster. They were so tiny and frail, and they seemed to be sick. When the puppies arrived to Furkids, the dog shelter medical team went straight to work to determine what was making them so ill. Our vets estimated that the puppies were about 4 weeks old, and determined that they had Parvovirus.
These Chihuahua puppies who were thrown into the trash like garbage now had a new obstacle: to survive Parvo. They were transferred out of the shelter and into a vet clinic so that they would not infect any other dogs. Fortunately, they survived and are now back at the dog shelter recovering.
At a time when these puppies should have been with their mother, these sick babies were thrown into the garbage and left to die. We are so thankful to the kind person who found the puppies and brought them to our facility to receive the best care.
They are currently around 7 weeks old and will be available for...READ MORE >
At Furkids, we love it when our community gets involved, be it local businesses, organizations, service groups or schools. Hope Knight, an art teacher at Dolvin Elementary School, found a great way to get her students interested in helping Furkids animals through art!
It is a community service project called “PetpARTners”, and the goal, according to Knight, “is to raise awareness of the homeless pet population in our community and bring in more adopting families and donations.”
Knight’s students look at the adoptable pets on furkids.org and create beautiful portraits based on the profile photos of each pet. “We are sharing them in our school social media sites and also plan on displaying then in local businesses,” said Knight. She says she got the idea upon visiting the dog shelter for the first time over Summer Break.READ MORE >
