10 Furkids Highlights That Made 2025 Unforgettable

So many beautiful miracles unfolded at Furkids in 2025. From lifesavingrescues and moments of community strength to exciting growth and expansion, this year showed us what’s possible when compassion leads the way. Because of you, 2025 was filled with second chances, resilience, and hope for animals across Georgia.

Here are 10 of our favorite Furkids highlights from 2025, made possible by supporters and friends like you.

1. Pomeranian Rescue, 50+ Saved!

In July, Furkids responded to a heartbreaking hoarding situation involving more than 50 Pomeranians. Many of the dogs arrived scared, in need of urgent medical care, and unsure of what came next. Thanks to dedicated staff, foster families, and supporters, each dog received the treatment, patience, and love they deserved. Today, nearly all have found their forever homes - an incredible transformation made possible by compassion and commitment.

2. The Furkids Family Grows - Furkids & Purr Nation

The Furkids family got a lot stronger in 2025! Following Furkids’ acquisition of Purr Nation Cat Alliance, our reach and impact for homeless pets in need has never been greater. With additional personnel and expertise, our satellite adoption center in Marietta, Furkids East Cobb, was able to help more cats, support more families, and celebrate meaningful adoption success - strengthening lifesaving efforts throughout the community. We can’t wait to see what our team at this location will do in 2026 for homeless cats in need!

3. A New Hub for Hope - JCAC Opening!

On October 25, we celebrated the grand opening of our Johns Creek Adoption Center (JCAC), which has already become a vibrant and thriving location helping over 100 cats find the loving families they deserve. This ideal location will continue to support our mission as it is in the same complex as our Furkids thrift store, and our next highlight!

4. Furkids Pet Boutique Open Now!

Right next to Johns Creek Adoption Center, is our new Pet Boutique (9850 Nesbit Ferry Road, Johns Creek) welcoming in new animal lovers into our mission, and offering unique pet supplies! Furkids Thrift Stores and Boutique make up 35% of our annual operating budget every year. Have items to donate, or want to shop while supporting our life saving mission? Find a store closest to you!

5. Cat Crisis Response - 23 Lives Saved

In August, a panleukopenia outbreak at a local animal control facility placed 23 cats on the list for euthanasia. Furkids stepped in without hesitation, taking in all 23 cats and quarantining them safely. Through careful medical oversight and round-the-clock care, each cat was given the chance to recover. What could have ended in tragedy became a story of hope, teamwork, and lifesaving action.

6. Overlooked No More! FiV+, Seniors, Bonded Pairs

We were thrilled when PetSmart updated its policy in 2025 and allowed FIV+ cats to be placed for adoption in their adoption centers! Thanks to supporters like you, these pets found loving homes in 2025 from the seven Furkids PetSmart adoption centers: 27 FIV+ cats, 25 senior cats, and 43 bonded pairs (86 cats!) and hundreds of other kittens and single adults.

7. Community Strength After Tragedy

When our transport van was involved in a devastating accident last year, the outcome could have been unthinkable. Instead, a miracle unfolded. All 37 cats were found and safely returned to Furkids, thanks to our hardworking team of volunteers and staff, and the incredible outpouring of community support. From immediate responders searching night and day, and volunteers sharing information, our supporters came together - allowing us to recover, rebuild, and keep saving lives. We continue to be humbled and amazed by the sheer outpouring of love and support from our local community and beyond. We will never forget the kindness and love shown to our animals and our team during what was the scariest moment in Furkids history.

8. Happy Days for Our Dogs!

We launched Doggie Day Out, a program designed to give dogs waiting for their forever homes a break from the shelter. These outings provided enrichment, mental stimulation, and plenty of joy - whether through walks, adventures, or simply time spent with caring people. For many long-stay dogs, Doggie Day Out brought renewed confidence and hope, made possible by volunteers and supporters. Thanks to supporters like YOU for making their day! Interested? 9. Our Low Cost Clinic, and Spay and Neuter Impact!

Furkids continued to support pets and families beyond adoption through accessible medical care. Through our vaccine clinics, 1,668 pets received essential, affordable services - helping the public who might otherwise go without. Additionally, our medical team completed 3,619 spay and neuter surgeries, taking meaningful steps to reduce suffering and prevent future homelessness caused by overpopulation.

10. The Biggest Expansion in Our History is Almost Here

2025 marked the start of construction on the new Giaquinto Medical Center and Sutherlin Dog Shelter at Furkids Headquarters - the largest expansion in our history. In the past few weeks, progress has accelerated, and we eagerly await their completion. These new facilities will unite our cat and dog operations on one campus, creating a better environment for our animals and a stronger, more efficient home for our people. We will be able to have a greater impact in the community for the most at risk pets! We plan to double the number of lives we are able to save in just a short time of opening these new buildings. Want to leave a legacy of love? There are many ways you can support the next chapter at Furkids. Please consider naming opportunities, or a donation to our capital campaign.
