Show your Stars and Stripes - Become a Furkids Pet-triot Today!

Posted by Furkids Admin | Tuesday, June 30th

As we dive headlong into our favorite summer celebration, everyone at Furkids wishes you a fun and festive Fourth. We are celebrating in our own way, with a virtual PET-TRIOT Party, to benefit our Emergency Medical Fund. And we hope you'll join us!

Furkids is known for our commitment to the homeless pets that others cannot help. The sick and injured, the sad and shy, the hard-to-adopt black cats and dogs, and even the "unique and beautiful-in-their-own-way" animals like our dear Lemond. We are proud of this distinction, but it comes at a very high price. Just last week we wrote the largest check ever, in the history of Furkids, to one of our partner vets - it was for more than $53,000!

Tigger is a recent recipient of Furkids' dedication to animals in dire need . She came to us with a horrible injury to her tail. It had to be amputated, and she required a lengthy hospital stay. Tigger is now recovering in foster care, and doing well. Hundreds of other Furkids have similar...

Posted by Furkids Admin | Tuesday, June 30th

You will soon have another way to support our life-saving mission. Our third thrift store is slated to open in early August, can you believe it? Thank you all for donating and shopping at our other two locations and making them a huge success.

Our new location will be at 255 Scenic Hwy in Lawrenceville. If you are familiar with the area, this used to be the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store. Our new store is conveniently located in a shopping center with three other thrift/antique stores to make for a fun shopping experience.

Volunteers and staff are working now preparing this fantastic new space, but we need your help getting it ready. Please email us at, for additional information on volunteer opportunities if you would like to be a part of this exciting new team in Lawrenceville!

The store's hours will be Monday - Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 12 to 4 p.m

If you haven't been to our other locations, make sure to check...

$9 Adoptions and Half Price Kittens begin July 1

Posted by Furkids Admin | Tuesday, June 30th

It's BAAACK...our beloved 9 Lives for 9 Dollars Campaign! For the month of July, all cats 6 months or older have $9 adoption fees. That means cute little Rajah pictured right can come home for only $9. These are altered, vaccinated, healthy and happy Furkids! Senior cats and FIV+ kitties are excluded, because they already have zero adoption fees. Nada. Zilch.

Oh, did we mention our Kitten Special? Half-price adoption fees on all littles under 6 months. That means you can adopt two, for the price of one!

Have we lost our minds? Well, here's the back story. Furkids saved a lot of tiny lives earlier in the year. Kitten Season came on with a vengeance. And there's always another wave of kittens on the horizon. We need to find forever homes - fast - for the cats and kittens we have now, to make room for new rescues.

You can apply to adopt any of our cats and kittens here, then visit some fantastic felines at our cat shelter, or one of our adoption centers.

It's the PURRfect time to add...

Safety Tips for a Safe July 4th

Posted by Furkids Admin | Monday, June 29th

Like many Americans, you may be planning to have a festive Fourth of July. Along with barbeques and day at the beach, no July holiday celebration would be complete without enjoying the fireworks that celebrate the birth of our nation.

Perhaps you are considering staying at home and planning a get-together with friends and family. Or, you may want to go check out your local professional fireworks display. While putting the finishing touches on your planned celebration, take a moment to consider your pets.

Unlike people, pets don’t associate the noise, flashes, and burning smell of pyrotechnics with celebrations. Pets are terrified of fireworks, and often panic at the loud whizzes and bangs they produce.

Because of this, the American Humane Association reports that July 5 is the busiest day of the year for animal shelters. Why? Animal shelters the day after Fourth of July are inundated with pets that panicked at the noise of firecrackers and fled into the night, winding up lost,...

Valentine and her growing needs

Posted by Furkids Admin | Monday, June 15th

Little Valentine could not even lift her hind end when she arrived at Furkids as an 8 week old puppy. She scooted around on her front paws, dragging her rear. Facebook followers may recall her first set of wheels constructed by a Furkids volunteer in the garage. That got Valentine up and rolling. Then we saw what needed tweaking and eventually Valentine graduated to the Walkin' Wheels® she now uses. Not only does this wheelchair allow Valentine greater mobility and use of her four legs, but it also helped to strengthen her muscles and now Valentine is able to stand and take a few steps without her wheels! But make no mistake about this, Valentine loves her wheels! Hook Valentine up to her Walkin' Wheels and she is a force to be reckoned with! Her tail wags the whole time she's running and she can finally chase and play with other dogs. A far cry from scooting and dragging!

Valentine currently lives at our dog shelter where we can take care of her 13 hours a day with walks, physical...
