Thunder Enjoys the Sun…and Another Chance
His story generates interest to this day.
It was a stormy afternoon last summer, and we were in the midst of a terrible downpour. Our Open House was in full-swing. Lightning flashed, thunder crashed, and the front door flew open. A man struggled through with an upside-down laundry basket, duct-taped to a plastic lid. Through the slats of the basket, we could see an old tabby cat.
The man explained that his neighbor had suddenly passed away, and he wanted to get the cat to safety.
Furkids knew this old guy would not fare well at animal control, and his chances of being accepted into another rescue were slim to none. We were all in tears - for the cat, and for the kind man who wanted to do the right thing in his neighbor’s memory.
As we examined Thunder, we could tell he was very confused about what was happening to him. When we inspected his mouth, a terrible odor and swollen gums told us that he would need extensive dental surgery, which was scheduled quickly.
As word of Thunder’s story spread, several people stepped up to foster or adopt him. One special person, Susan, anxiously drove from North Carolina just to meet him! Thunder was adopted by Susan, where he lives happily with two other cats and a dog.
February is National Animal Dental Care Month. Having a healthy mouth can be the difference between life and death for a cat or a dog, like it was for Thunder. Help Furkids help more cats and dogs by donating toward more dental surgeries in February. It made a difference for Thunder!
