Paws, Posters, and Passion:  Midway Elementary’s 4th Graders Help Furkids Find Forever Families

A few months ago, we received a heartwarming message from Ms. Brown, the art teacher at Midway Elementary, and Mrs. Lundstrum, the school’s technology coach. Their school, located just down the road from Furkids headquarters, wanted to team up for a very special community project - one that would help our animals get one step closer to finding their forever homes.

The idea was simple yet powerful: Ms. Brown and Mrs. Lundstrum asked Furkids to share photos and stories of adoptable animals so their 4th grade students could create personalized adoption posters. These posters would not only showcase the animals’ personalities and quirks but also teach the students how their talents and compassion could make a real-world impact.

We sent over photos of some of our adoptable cats and dogs, and the students got to work in pairs, pouring their hearts and creativity into each poster. They weren’t just creating artwork - they were becoming advocates. As one student, Lynn, put it, “It gave us a chance to show our creativity about something helpful.”

Eventually, the posters were digitized and turned into a beautiful video presentation, highlighting each animal and the student’s incredible efforts.

To wrap up the project, Furkids’ social media specialist, Karlie, was invited to appear on Midway Elementary’s morning broadcast. She spoke to the school about Furkids’ mission to save homeless and abandoned animals in our community, the journey rescue animals go through, and the way that students - no matter their age - can be part of the animal rescue community. And of course, she brought along three tiny, purring guests: kittens who loved every minute of the attention. She left the visit with a generous bundle of donations the students had collected for the animals at Furkids.

This collaboration is more than just an art project - it was a powerful reminder that compassion, creativity, and community can come together to make real change. We’re beyond thankful to Ms. Brown, Mrs. Lundstrum, and all the amazing young advocates at Midway Elementary for their support, enthusiasm, and belief in a world where every animal finds a loving home.
