What Would You Do to Save a Kitten?

What Would You Do to Save a Kitten?

Last Thursday, we received a call from a volunteer who feeds a feral cat colony. A kitten had fallen 18 feet down into a storm drain, and had been there for DAYS! Local emergency services responded, but could not get down far enough to save the kitten, who was crying constantly, and in grave danger whenever it rained, as water flooded the storm drain. Somehow, she managed to stay on a small ledge. Can you imagine?? Her will to survive is amazing! Thankfully, our volunteer and her family managed to lower food and water down to the kitten regularly, but it was torture to hear her cries!

Once we heard about this terrible situation, we sprang into action to help save this kitten. We contacted someone who is an experienced caver and was willing to crawl through the drains to get the kitten out. Finally, our little kitten - now named Dawn - is free! We named her in honor of this brave caver: Dawn. Thank you Dawn for being willing to do what no one else could, you are one hero we’ll never forget!

We are so very thankful to our volunteers who worried every minute of each day this poor kitten was in that storm drain, and we are especially thankful to Lillian, Mike and Marcy, who made a pulley system to get food down to the kitten everyday until we could get her rescued. They never gave up! When it comes to saving lives, that’s the attitude you have to have – never give up. Thank you to our amazing volunteers, you rock!
