Small but Mighty Thor!
Meet Thor. He’s a tiny little guy leaving a mighty impression on Furkids’ social media. You may recall seeing posts about a black kitten who came to us paralyzed and with an upper respiratory infection. You might have even made a much-needed donation to go toward his vetting. Furkids is happy to report that Thor is doing well in foster care. We had a chance to speak with his foster mom, Heather O’ Callaghan, who said that things are looking up for the little guy.
“He doesn't know he is different,” said Heather. “He plays like other kittens, just on 2 legs. He runs (his version of running) after his toys, and he runs from us. I actually had a hard time catching him in our bedroom one day when he was out playing.”
Heather said that Thor is a goofball who loves kisses and having his ears scratched (since he can’t do it himself). He is even quite the little daredevil. When Heather sits on the floor, he crawls up onto her lap and jumps off!
Being the awesome foster she is, Heather crafted a little cart for Thor to make it easier for him to get around. “He is so tiny, it is hard to [get him in the cart], so I think for now we may have to wait until he is a little bigger,” said Heather. “I think it is too restrictive for him. He likes to play hard and roll around with his toys, and he can't do that in the cart.” Most of the time, Thor has a sock on his bottom half to protect him from the friction that comes with dragging his back legs around.
When Thor came to Furkids on June 14, his legs were limp, but he and Heather have been doing water therapy and said she has noticed movement. Thor saw the vet this week, who confirmed that Thor does indeed have feeling in his legs.
“He does seem to have some feeling, [we] just don't know how much,” said Heather. “If he had some fractures, he would show pain at some point with either me working his legs, or him playing and scooting in the floor.”
As more information comes in about Thor’s condition, we will give updates. For now, we’re just happy that he gets around and plays without any pain and we hope he makes a full recovery. Follow Furkids on Facebook to keep up Thor on his journey!
This little guy still needs help! Please consider making a donation toward Thor’s medical expenses at furkids.org/donation.
