Hawkeye - Adopted after 7 Years

hawkeye2Hawkeye was rescued from Fulton County Animal Services in 2007 by Small Dog Rescue. Surely someone would adopt such a cute little dog quickly, right? Shortly after rescue, he went to foster care with, Nelly and Guillermo, a wonderful couple that have helped foster and save more than 100 dogs during their time with us. Nelly and Guillermo have such a passion for animal rescue that when they visit Cancun multiple times a year, they rescue and help spay and neuter many street animals in Mexico.

Hawkeye can be a sweet little boy, to those who know him best, but he doesn't get along with every person he meets. It takes time. Hawkeye didn't do very well at adoptions, so often times he did not attend, making his adoption less and less likely over the years, but we tried.

Nelly and Guillermo have loved and cared for Hawkeye as though he was there own for almost seven years. They are currently in the process of moving to Texas and were unsure of what to do with Hawkeye. They considered adopting him, but had not made a decision yet. Good thing they didn't, because his forever mommy was waiting in the wings. Hawkeye got an amazing application from a woman that wanted to spoil him rotten! Even better, Hawkeye really liked her when they met!

With tears in their eyes, Nelly and Guillermo handed off Hawkeye to his new mommy. Nelly had this to say about him, "Hawkeye is not only an amazing little dog, but he was the perfect greeter for every scared dog that came into our house. It was like he knew how scared they were and would be next to them under the table or under the desk. He was always inviting them to play or to come out in the backyard. He also like to be friend with the old sick dogs."

Hawkeye's adoption gives up hope. We have so many cats and dogs that have been waiting for years, either at our shelter or in foster care for forever families. Please consider adopting a long-term animal today. E-mail adopt@furkids.org if you want to open your heart to a long-term animal and we can help you find a friend in need.

We wish Nelly and Guillermo well and know the animals of Texas are lucky to have such amazing people on their side.
