Fosters in Focus - Dana S.

danapuppyWelcome to our blog feature, FOSTERS IN FOCUS! Naturally, our first article features the STAR of our foster program, Foster Coordinator, Dana Starr! I asked Dana to tell us a little about what brought her to fostering, what it has meant to her, and what motivates her to grow the program into the future. In her own words:

"I started fostering about 4 years ago when I experienced "empty nest syndrome". My first charges were a mommy and her babies. I was SO excited to pick them up, I barely slept the night before. When I got them home it was so much fun...I was hooked!  Then I began to take on itty-bitty orphans, who needed bottle feeding. I had learned how to bottle feed kittens years before; and after a "refresher course" from another foster, I discovered that it was like riding a bike...it all came back to me!

Me and Puppy

I think I took almost every bottle baby Furkids rescued for the next two years. (Who needs sleep? The teeny-tinies need me!) Bottle babies eventually led to medical fostering opportunities, and that's where I am most needed now. I didn't jump straight into medical, I worked my way there, learning so much along the way! Now I take in the more severe medical cases, and I am the Foster Home Coordinator for the cat division.

I love to recruit new foster families! I am so excited for them, and hope they will gain as much from the experience as I have. I know what we do makes a huge difference in little lives, and I am so very grateful to Furkids for allowing me to do what I love."
