A TransFUR Coalition Success Story - Abbott & Costello’s Journey
On a hot morning in mid-July, brothers Abbott & Costello were surrendered to a rural animal shelter in Georgia. Since they were surrendered by their owner, this put Abbott & Costello at the top of the euthanasia list in a crowded shelter. No longer wanted, their prospects were bleak and their luck had run out.
At about the time Abbott & Costello were surrendered, Furkids was busy organizing another north-bound transport to save the lives of Georgia kitties by sending them to states where they are looking for more adoptable cats. Furkids contacted a rescue group in Savannah to tell them about availability on the transport, which enabled the Savannah rescue to pull Abbott & Costello from animal control – and the euthanasia list – because they knew they had a place for them to go: North! These beautiful boys were about to have a BIG change of luck, and just in the nick of time!
That very day, Abbott & Costello were transported to Atlanta, where they were immediately loaded on the waiting TransFUR van, already loading up with 41 other very lucky kitties. From there, they traveled straight through the night to a shelter in Connecticut. And here is the best part: brothers Abbott & Costello were adopted into their furever home on the very same day they arrived in Connecticut – together!
That one trip in July was so special; not just because of the 43 lives saved, but also because it required a colossal organizational effort by Furkids staffers and volunteers, six rescue organizations in multiple states, and three Georgia animal control facilities. All told, the effort covered almost 1500 miles, saving 43 lives in only 24 hours! This is just one among hundreds of amazing stories in the months since the Georgia Interstate TransFUR Coalition began.
We need your help to continue and grow our TransFUR Coalition.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 by August 31st!
We need a second transport van - To date, Furkids has moved 491(!) cats and kittens to Northern states where they quickly find loving homes. We have a dedicated transportation van, but we need more capacity to save more lives. Our plan is to send two vans, two days a week during the next four months. We need $30,000 for an additional vehicle and to cover the cost of these transports.
We need funds to afford veterinary care for transport animals - The TransFUR Coalition provides veterinary care, micro-chipping, vaccinations, and spaying/neutering before transport so that cats and kittens arrive at their new destinations ready for adoption. But there's a cost of approximately $75 per animal and we must have your support to meet this need.
We urgently need your help to ensure that TransFURs can continue to give animals
the second chance, new homes, life and love they deserve!
It doesn't matter how much you donate - just that you give something...anything.
Every penny makes a difference and will help us get to our goal of $50,000 by August 31st.
