Karl had no idea that he was covered in one of the worst cases of mange anyone had ever seen, and that even the greatest of animal lovers were terrified to get close to him.

Yet, Karl had a guardian angel looking out for him that day. A kind man stopped, wrapped him up, and took him to animal control; the AC folks immediately contacted Furkids to see if we could help. Karl was swiftly transferred to one of our partner vets for evaluation and observation.

The diagnosis was shocking. Karl had mange covering more than 90% of his body. The mites that cause the infection burrow into the skin, causing intense itching and inflammation - Karl had to be in extreme discomfort.

This precious boy is now on a protocol of five different antibiotics, special medicated baths and a powerful painkiller. It is obvious that Karl feels much better! He has been released from emergency care, and is feeling the love at our dog shelter, where humans are again kind and friendly. Karl's Happy Beginning has just begun!
