Furkids is proud to be one of the few animal shelters in Georgia that offers meaningful ways for kids and teens of all ages to get involved. Whether you want to organize a fundraiser in your community or volunteer hands-on to complete club service hours, there’s a way for every young animal lover to make a difference.

Explore the opportunities below to find the best fit for your age group.

Fundraising & Donation Drives (Open to All Ages)

Young animal advocates can make a huge impact! Gather friends, family, or classmates and host your own fundraiser or supply drive. Popular ideas include lemonade stands, bake sales, car washes, or neighborhood drives.

Please note: Furkids is happy to offer guidance and ideas as you plan your fundraiser; however, we are not able to organize or staff individual fundraising events. All projects are planned and run independently by participants. Once your fundraiser is complete, we invite you to drop off the money raised or donated items at Furkids Headquarters.

To schedule a group donation drop-off and optional tour, please fill out our Youth and School Group Tour interest form.

If you are collecting supplies, consider shopping from our Amazon Wish List to ensure our animals receive what they need most. These items can be shipped directly to us!

Individual Youth Service Hour Opportunities

We love welcoming young volunteers!

All youth volunteers must create a Volunteer Hub account with a parent or guardian and
complete required training before participating in the activities below.

3 Steps to Volunteer:

1. Create an account in Volunteer Hub with a parent/guardian.
2. Complete the required orientation or training.
3. Sign up for available shifts in your chosen program.

Read to Cats (FurTales)

Volunteer Hub registration with a parent/guardian and orientation is required before participating.

Perfect for kids under 16 who love animals and books. FurTales helps children build reading confidence while giving cats calming companionship.

This program takes place in Clancey’s Cat Café, and a parent or guardian must remain present at all times.

To get started, create a Volunteer Hub account with a parent and register for an orientation tour.

Please bring your own books and consider a suggested $10 donation per person to help care for the rescued animals.

Cat Shelter Caretaker

Volunteer Hub registration with a parent/guardian and completion of training are required before signing up.

Children under 16 are welcome to volunteer in our cat shelter with a parent or guardian.

Our Cumming, GA headquarters is home to about 200 cats living in a colorful, cage-free environment designed for comfort and enrichment.

Volunteers help by:

• Refreshing food and water
• Cleaning litter boxes
• Sweeping and mopping
• Socializing, petting, and playing with the cats

It’s a wonderful blend of responsibility and quality cuddle time.

Puppy Socialization

Volunteer Hub registration with a parent/guardian and completion of training are required before signing up.

Youth ages 13-18 are welcome to participate in puppy socialization with a parent or guardian.

Help our puppies burn energy, build confidence, and get comfortable around families. When you spend time playing and interacting with our puppies, it helps them thrive in the shelter and find their forever homes.
