Meet Omar Omar is a sweet 11-year-old Shepherd mix who has already been given a second chance after being rescued from Puerto Rico. At just 24 pounds, he may be a smaller guy, but he has a big heart and so much love to give! Omar is house trained and leash trained, and he loves being with his people. In fact, Omar would prefer to be with you at all times! He would thrive with someone who works from home, is retired, or simply enjoys having a loyal little companion by their side throughout the day. Omar may not be a big cuddler, but he loves being close. Whether he’s relaxing on the couch, snoozing beside you, or simply following his favorite person around the house, he’s happiest when his people are nearby. As a senior, Omar may be going deaf, so his family will need to be patient and mindful when getting his attention or approaching him. Additionally, Omar has been diagnosed with renal failure, requiring that he be on a renal diet for the rest of his life. Omar is a dog who knows his boundaries and is not shy about communicating them. He does not like his feet or his back end touched, and he will let you know when he’s uncomfortable. For this reason, Omar needs a child-free home where his personal space and boundaries will be respected. Omar also prefers people over other dogs. He can take some time to warm up to canine friends, so slow introductions and plenty of time to get acquainted are important. He can also be protective of his couch and belongings, making a patient and understanding home the best fit for him. What Omar is looking for is pretty simple: a person who will love him, respect his boundaries, and let him be close. He has plenty of companionship to offer in return and would love nothing more than to spend his golden years with someone who appreciates his sweet, loyal nature.
