Kobe is a handsome 5-year-old chocolate Lab mix with a big heart and lots of love to give! This sweet, affectionate boy loves being close to his people and forms strong bonds with those he trusts. He's a smart, sensitive guy who thrives on consistency and knowing what to expect from his day. Kobe loves playing with toys and is a great retriever, although he'd often rather carry his prize around than give it back! He can be protective of things he values, so he appreciates someone who respects his boundaries and uses positive reinforcement and trading rather than taking things away. He's very food motivated, knows sit, down, and place, and is already housetrained! He also walks nicely on leash and loves a good sniff walk. Because Kobe bonds so closely with his people, he can struggle with sharing their attention and affection. He needs to be the only dog in an adult-only home where he can enjoy his own space and a predictable routine. Transitions can also be challenging for Kobe, particularly when his people are leaving, and he may become frustrated or upset in these situations. Kobe is looking for a patient, understanding adopter who can provide structure, continue his training, and recognize when he needs a break. When overwhelmed or frustrated, he can have a harder time managing his emotions, so a calm, consistent environment with a healthy balance of activity and downtime is especially important for him.
