My Furkids story began over 10 years ago when I read a newspaper article about Sam and the organization. I went to a volunteer orientation and after listening to Sam speak, I signed up to clean a room at the shelter once a week. I started making the trip every Wednesday night after work. The volunteers and staff are wonderful and loving on the kitties is the icing on the cake.
After a few months, my friend asked if she could volunteer with me. Now, 10 years later, we go every Wednesday night and clean rooms and love on kitties. And sometimes we get to love on dogs too!
I have learned so much in these past 10 years. I learned TNR for the ferals I see in my neighborhood and at work and the nearby industrial park. My husband and I have spent many an hour waiting patiently for a feral to go in a trap. Sometimes these cats and kittens have not been feral and have been placed with Furkids, where they have found a safe haven until they find a loving home. The ferals are released and my husband and I are faithfully caring for them. The ones at our house even have heated pads to sleep on in the cold months.
I have watched Furkids grow as an organization to the amazing rescue it is today. The volunteers and staff are the most caring and dedicated people I have ever met. Sam has a passion for the cats and dogs that has no boundaries. Her vision for Furkids is beyond amazing. It has been a great journey and I have been so blessed to be a very small part of it. I can’t wait to see what the next sixteen years will bring for Furkids.
