I have been a Furkids’ volunteer for 12 years and worn many hats. Three years ago my husband and I picked up a litter of 6 kittens to foster. Unfortunately, they all tested positive for FeLV (kitty leukemia). Fortunately we were in a position to become permanent fosters for them. We have a “cat house” on our property for fostering and we ended up building a Catico so the babies can come in when the weather is bad and run and frolic outside when the weather is good. We are now an official FeLV foster family. Three of the original six have passed but we have added more as space allows. This has been a wonderful experience for us…we provide the love and care and Furkids provides for their medical needs. As my husband and I have gotten older we’ve talked about not wanting to adopt younger cats because we do not want them to outlive us and end up back in the system. Fostering special needs cats is the perfect solution! So quite by accident we found our calling. Sometimes the blessings come when you least expect them!
