Boots, a Furkids foster, came into my life in December 2017. I had just lost my 16 year old cat Winston a few weeks before, and had lost Winston's 18 year old brother the year before. After having two cats that were always at my side for that long, the loss was crushing. I wasn't quite yet ready to adopt a new cat because of the crazy medical expenses I had incurred after having two seniors with lots of medical issues, so I decided to look into fostering and contacted Furkids. I asked for a senior with special needs, and just a few weeks later, met Boots, a very sweet 13 year old diabetic. Boots quickly settled into my home and although there have been some challenges with his medical issues, I honestly don't know how I could have gotten though the loss of Max and Winston without him. I knew that Boots's humans had dropped him off at a shelter when they decided they couldn't take care of him anymore, so I felt like he and I were both just trying to feel our way through a loss. I noticed that the first few weeks he was here, he would always make sure his paw was touching me when he slept, as if he was worried I would leave. Now that he has settled in, he has gotten much sassier! Furkids has been AMAZING (thanks Rene!) with offering support with all of his medical issues and I can't imagine fostering through anyone else. I wish more people understood how the foster program works because I see me being a foster parent for many years to come! Thank you Furkids!
