Peke Mei Li wanted a companion since her mom worked during the day and as a 1 year old she had a lot of energy and wanted to play all the time. Her mom called Small Dog Rescue (the name at the time Feb 2008). We applied to adopt another Peke in hope he would be just like Mei Li. When we met him, he did not seem to take to Mei Li so we were advised perhaps he wasn’t a good match. A bit sad since we had not yet found the right one for Mei Li, we decided the journey may take longer than we thought. A day later we received an email from Small Dog Rescue who asked if we would consider a 1 year old Peke mix because they had a great match to our requirement that the companion must like to play with Mei Li (and have the same energy level.) We fell in love with Kai (named JoeJoe at the time) the second we met him. He immediately started playing with Mei Li when he saw her. The woman processing adoptions asked if we wanted to take a bit more time to decide if he’s the right match. There was no need. We knew Kai was just the right one for us! 10 years later he continues to bring so much joy to Mei Li, their Mom and a couple new members of the home. He is the most gentle, sweetest and smartest boy a family can want! We’re so thankful we got that call 10 years ago to possibly consider him to join our family. We will forever be grateful!
