We began volunteering at Furkids’ main shelter in Oct. 2010. While we’ve worn several different hats since we started, we’ve always been room cleaners, and for almost six years we’ve been cleaning Room 9. It gives us a tremendous sense of satisfaction helping to give that special group of cats a quality life. In return, they have taught us that our path lies with senior and special needs cats. Over the years, we’ve fostered 11 cats from Furkids, nine of which had or have special needs, and six of those came directly from Room 9. And while we are pretty good room cleaners, we are even better foster failures; we’ve adopted eight of our 11 fosters (OK, technically one is still a foster, but we all know what will happen!).
We decided to volunteer at Furkids because we wanted to give back. What we never anticipated was how much Furkids would give us.
