I first started volunteering with Furkids under the PurrKids program to help socialize cats. I got paired up with a cat, Dandelion, and she wasn't very social around people, but was best friends with one cat in particular, Rosanna. She was petrified of me at first, but over the course of a few months, she started to get to know me and like me, and not to long after, I knew I had to take her home. The first several months was a struggle, to say the least. For the first four weeks, she didn't move from the top back shelf of our closet. I had to feed her and change out litter pads from up there. Eventually, she got braver, and started to make her way down, shelf by shelf, until several months later, she exited her closet domain, and ventured outside into our bedroom. From there on, each day was a new adventure to see Rosanna's growth into becoming a cat, one that really enjoyed life and wasn't constantly scared all the time. Now, years later, she never leaves our side, is very vocal about food, has full-on "tortitude" and is the sweetest love bug anyone could ever ask for. All of the patient waiting and training was worth it, because in the end I wouldn't have any other cat.
