When I first started volunteering at Furkids, there was the cutest tuxedo kitty named Birdie in room 3. She wasn't very sociable and usually spent her time up in a cat tree or on a shelf with her head against the wall. Over the next two months I would visit her when I came to volunteer, and would try to coax her from her perches. She slowly came around and would let me pet her. Sometimes on good days, she would even jump down and play on the ground.
One of my favorite moments with her was when she was up in her cat tree. That day she seemed like she didn't want to be bothered, so I walked past her to check out the other cats. When I walked back through the doorway, she had perked up and was looking down as if she was eager for me to walk by again.
One day when I was volunteering on a Saturday I walked by to see her brushing up against a lady, and looking happy a clam. She went on to find her forever home soon after that.
Birdie was the start of my love for cats. She will always have a special place in my heart.
