I adopted my first Furkid, Kitty Woo, in 2011. She brings so much joy to my life, especially since I don't have kids and live by myself. She really is my fur-baby. In 2016, I was unexpectedly laid off from my job. I was devastated. I started volunteering with Furkids once a week. This was a life saver and a welcome respite from the ups and downs of job searching. I knew the staff and cats were counting on me to show up, and I desperately needed a reason to get out of bed. Volunteering at Furkids fulfilled my need to feel like I was contributing meaningfully. Four months later I was lucky to find full time employment again, but I have continued to volunteer with Furkids as much as I can, and I will always be a champion for them and the animals they save.
