My first foster dog was named Bren ‘10 after the woman who founded Small Dog Rescue and who I heard many good things about but she passed away. My 1st foster was very special to me. She was an Australian Shepherd and Dachshund mix. When I went to pick her up from the shelter I accidentally locked my keys in my car and my husband had to take a cab out to unlock the car but I was determined to bring this girl home with me. She was so silly and sometimes watched tv for a second. Despite her larger size she awkwardly would sit on the top back of the couch. When she was adopted I got a little emotional but I saw how happy her new owner was and knew then and there that I wanted to keep fostering because not only does it save dogs, but it brings joy to the people adopt around them. Since then I’ve had almost 20 fosters and I cared for each of them like they were my own. We went on road trips, hikes and to the beach but when the smiling faces of their new owners appeared I knew they would be fortunate for the rest of their lives.
