In 2008 I adopted a 8 yr old,7 lbs, toothless Silky Terrier from Small Dog Rescue (now part of Furkids) I named Tootsie. She had been a breeder mom, locked in a cage, never around people except when they bred her or took her puppies away. She had never walked on grass or been even sat on a lap & had any love. I had another rescue dog (55 lbs lab/chow mix named Happy) that helped me reach out to her & teach her not to afraid of me, eat, walk on a lead, go outside to do her business, even learned to lift her leg just like her big brother. It took years before she would even sit on my lap (sitting beside me was okay with her). Last month marked Tootsie's 17th birthday. She has her own car seat & goes with me to visit my father every week and on all vacations. She loves to walk (mostly the driveway now) and is happy little girl. She has become such a love. Tell folks not to hesitate to adopt a "senior" give them the love and they will pay you back tenfold.
