Sometimes a fresh perspective and a trip to Las Vegas are just what a person needs to get the creative juices flowing! A trip to the Best Friends Conference in Las Vegas that is. Mary Jo Cox, a long-time Small Dog volunteer, and Tina Ghering, our dog application manager, attended the annual Best Friends Conference this October to learn about the latest techniques in animal rescue including behavioral training for shelter dogs, ways to increase adoptions creatively, and marketing animals online among many seminars. A Year in Review - 2012

Dear Friends, This has been a great year to be a Furkid! Our 10th anniversary year brought us more activity, growth, intakes, adoptions, and opportunities than any other year in our history. We have happily saved over 1,000 dogs and cats this year and remain the largest no-kill shelter in Georgia. Part of the excitement came from our acquisition of SmallDog Rescue & Humane Society at the end of 2011. Furkids Saves 39 Cats from Death Row in Time for Thanksgiving

Every year Furkids has a Thanksgiving tradition - we save lives! On Monday Nov. 19 Furkids staff and volunteers prepared for 40 new arrivals with great excitement and happiness. Furkids has a tradition of choosing an animal control facility and rescuing every cat scheduled to be killed at Thanksgiving. This year we chose Floyd County Animal Control in Rome, GA with a 99% euthanasia rate for cats and kittens.
