Declawing

Declawing your cat is NOT like giving it a manicure - it is a serious, painful, and unnecessary surgery. There are many health risks associated with the procedure, as well as the potential of lasting behavioral effects. The good news is that with a little preparation, unnecessary scratching is easily preventable! To read more about declawing, its effects on the cat, and alternative solutions to cat scratching, click here.

Soft Paws and Sticky Paws are an effective, safe, and humane alternative to declawing. Remember, though, always provide your kitty with adequate scratching posts!

The LifeLine Spay & Neuter Clinic is a high volume, high quality clinic providing low-cost spay and neuter procedures. Low cost vaccinations are offered for all sterilization patients. The clinic is open to the public Monday-Thursday by appointment.

Project CatSnip is Atlanta's first and only mobile feline surgical unit specializing in spay/neuter. Their purpose is to end feline overpopulation in Atlanta by making crucial spay/neuter and identification services affordable and accessible for those on restricted incomes or who are caring for doorstep, stray and feral cats. Check out their website to learn more about them, what they do, and to schedule an appointment.

Besides helping control overpopulation, there are many health benefits of spaying/neutering your pet! To read about some of them, click here.

Comprehensive Listing of Low Cost Spay/Neuter Resources in Georgia

Muscogee County Humane Society
is a no-kill shelter located in Columbus, GA that currently does spay/neuter surgeries every Thursday and some Saturdays & Sundays. Their surgery rates are:
Low income: This is a sliding scale that starts at 25k annual income for 1 person and goes up according to how many dependants are in the household. Surgeries run from $30 - $75; however, even if someone cannot afford the above, they do not turn anyone away for sterilizing their animals and work with them anyway they can. This fee also includes annual shots, rabies vax w/ tag & certificate and a dose of Revolution if needed.
Rescue groups: $20 - $30 and it includes the above as well.
Feral Cats: $25 for the first, $20 for others. If you have a large colony the rate drops to $10. This also includes shots.
Senior Citizens: the either qualify for the low cost or the standard Sr. rate is $50 and that includes all of the above services.

Feral Cats

Alley Cat Allies promotes nonlethal control for feral and stray cats with trap-neuter (TNR) programs that effectively reduce their population by sterilization - not euthanasia.
