WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS A GRAPHIC IMAGE OF JAYCEE'S INJURY!
Last week, Furkids was contacted by a lady asking us to take a kitten that she had come across. She said that her friend had found the kitten on her front porch with injuries and was going to pick the kitten up and bring her to us. When the kitten arrived to Furkids, it was discovered that she had a gaping wound on her belly. The wound was deep and obviously infected, so we took her in immediately. She was named Jaycee, and has proven to be a little trooper even though she is in so much pain. We’re not sure how she was wounded, but Jaycee will need to have surgery to save her life. She has already undergone a laser therapy treatment which has reduced the diameter of the wound. This will make surgery easier on Jaycee’s tiny body. The estimated cost of her treatment is $1,000. Jaycee needs your help to heal.

August is just around the corner, but the last day of July is what it’s all about! National Mutt Day is coming up and we want to celebrate all the mutts in our shelter and in the world!
National Mutt Day was founded 11 years ago by Colleen Paige. Paige wanted to shed some light on mixed-breed dogs who are often overlooked. There is such a high demand for “designer breeds” that many unwanted mutts go into shelters and never come out. Always adopt. There are so many dogs in shelters waiting for forever homes.
Furkids loves all dogs, designers and mutts alike, but on Sunday, we will be showcasing our perfectly mixed-up pooches on our social media pages. Post a picture of your Furkids mutt and tag Furkids with the hashtag #FurkidsMutt and we’ll share it! Don’t have a furry family member to share? Check out our dogs any time at furkids.org/dog-adoptions and fill out an adoption application. Your best friend is waiting for you!
This weekend, make a $15 donation for National...READ MORE >
Lula is a sweet and gentle soul who is the poster-child for neglected animals everywhere. She was found in Dacula totally emaciated and with a terrible skin condition. Lula was days, if not hours, from death. A Furkids kennel tech brought her to the dog shelter and we immediately got to work to save her life.
Our vet told us that her nails had grown into her paw pads, but gentle Lula allowed her to cut them without even flinching. Her skin scrape came back negative for mange, but she will be starting medication to help her skin heal as soon as she puts on more weight. Lula weighs 40 pounds with absolutely no muscle on her, so she is supposed to be a big dog. The vet said she was surprised to see Lula walking due to how emaciated she was.
Neighbors in the area where Lula was found claim that she belonged to a man who went to jail six months ago. They said that this man often shot at his dogs with BB guns, even once to the point of death. She hadn’t been seen in the first four...READ MORE >
Last week, we sent an email addressing the urgent need to raise money for our Emergency Rescue Fund. We want to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far! With your incredible contributions, we have raised $10,000!
What's even more amazing is that a generous donor saw the $8,000 match being offered and is giving $7,000 to make it a $15,000 total match!
We're only $5,000 away from the match goal! If you have not already, please consider making a donation to the Furkids Emergency Rescue Fund. Furkids will make your donated dollars go farther!
Already in 2016, we have saved the lives of 1213 cats and 401 dogs! In June alone, we have saved over 200 animals from death. Furkids is committed to saving lives, including the difficult cases that other rescues just can't take on. We believe that the heartworm-positive, extremely sick, abused, surgical case animals deserve a second chance, too.
